Recreational Program

The Larchmont Junior Soccer League Recreational Program is based on a simple philosophy: everybody plays. The recreational league program is played in the fall season for children in our community.  A new kindergarten program was introduced in the spring of 2006.

Children who reside or attend school in the Larchmont/Mamaroneck community - parochial and private schools as well as public - are eligible to play. Children who play travel soccer for Larchmont or any other municipality cannot play rec soccer for Larchmont. There are developmental programs for kindergarten, first and second graders, while the 3rd through 9th grade programs are competitive.  Program details are as follows:

Kindergarten Program

There is a developmental program for Kindergarten students held in the spring and the fall.  Professional instruction will be provided by NOGA, with a major emphasis on imparting love of the game, and the enjoyment of playing, to the children.

Spring Kindergarten Program

The program will run for 9 weeks commencing in mid April, with each child participating in one session per week, on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon 12:30 – 1:30pm (your choice of day). Registration normally occurs in late February/early March of each year – see Registration. Confirmation details will be emailed / mailed to parents in late March / early April.

Fall Kindergarten Program

The program will run for 6 weeks beginning at the end of September when the full day kindergarten begins. Each child participates in one session per week, on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon 12:30 - 1:30pm (your choice of day). Registration occurs in September as soon as soon as the full day schedule is known.  See Registration. Confirmation details will be emailed / mailed to before the sessions begin. Fall 2008 program information.

Fall Program (1st through 9th grades)

First and second grade programs are developmental in structure. Both programs are mixed boys and girls, and structured around group sessions (no set teams although the goal is to have each child with the same trainer each week).  NOGA trainers run the sessions, and each week is divided between training and mini games.  First grade plays in  three separate sessions in the morning, and Second Grade plays in three sessions in the afternoon.  Both of these programs do NOT practice mid-week. All sessions take place on Flint Park Front (on the left as you drive into the park).

The Minor Division, for third and fourth graders, plays 9 v. 9. Both the Intermediate Division, for fifth and sixth graders, and Major Division, for seventh, eighth and ninth graders, plays 11 v. 11. In all three divisions, there are separate teams for girls and boys. These teams generally practice one afternoon or early evening each week, on a day chosen by the coach. Games are played on Saturdays (with occasional Sundays), at different times each week. The schedule is posted on the website in late August.

In addition to the regular season (8 games) and championship rounds, there is an annual Pele Cup competition in each division based on a random draw. Pele Cup play generally starts in early November and offers a "fresh start" for late-developing teams.

Registration generally occurs in the spring for the following fall - see Registration. The Commissioners for each Division and others involved in running the recreational program are listed under Recreational Program Personnel.

Teams are usually formed by the Division Commissioners in July, and every effort is made to balance them to create good competition. Due to the number of players involved in the league, we cannot accept requests for placement with other players . Rosters together with other important details about the season are distributed in early August. League play begins on the Saturday after Labor Day.  Please also note that there are NO refunds after the first game.
