The recipients of the Larchmont Junior Soccer League’s Sportsmanship Awards exemplify excellent sportsmanship and show fair and generous behavior. They treat others, including refs, team members and opponents with respect and go out of their way to help others. They are cooperative and dedicated to their team, teammates and the beautiful aspects of sport. The winners of these awards are an inspiration not only to their teammates but also to all those around them, on and off the field.
The Sybil Neuringer Sportsmanship award was established in the late '80s in honor of Sybil Neuringer, a local 4th grader in our league who was hit by a car on Palmer Avenue on her way home from school and died from her injuries. Her family set up this award in her memory because Sybil loved soccer. This award is given to girls in both the Intermediate and Major Divisions.
The Sid Ings Sportsmanship Award was established in 2022 in honor of Sid Ings who has been a fervent supporter of LJSL for many years. Sid moved to Larchmont in 1982 and got involved with our league that fall by coaching a Major boys’ recreational team. He went on to coach both boys' and girls’ travel teams. He served as coach, field maintenance person, Commissioner, Treasurer, President and filled many, many more roles for Larchmont Junior Soccer League. Sid retired in 2019, when he moved back to his home country of England. We are thankful for his 36 years of dedication and service! This award is given to boys in both the Intermediate and Major Divisions.
